Vermont church highlights

I'll consolidate the best church pictures here......

The first church we came across was a real find.  As we drove through Bennington, the first town on the highway into Vermont, we turned a curve and saw this church steeple ahead.  After parking and getting closer we found this great old cemetery with headstones dating back to the early 1800's.  And, a discreet little sign pointing us to the grave of Robert Frost.

This says:  "to the memory of Mrs. Elizabeth consort of the Honorable Issac Fichenor, who departed this life Aug 21 1815 in the 60th year of her age".  Consort?  No last name?  Interesting.

This church was built in 1806 for $7800 and the pews were 'rented' by the year.  The pews up front were $500/yr and the ones at the back were $25.  The balcony was free.  The boys were on one side and the girls on the other side of the balcony and you could see where on the boys' side the rails and seats were carved up with 'graffiti' while the girl's side was totally pristine.  Hmmmmm.

Two churches in Burlington,VT, the largest town - mostly because it's a college town - 4 colleges.

Stowe, VT

Montpelier, VT, the capital.

Next post will show a collection of Vermont bridge photos.....
